    Description

    Elena Yakimushkina’s smaller companion to Sculptural Vessel “On the Rocks” #1 shares the same bold aesthetic and raw, textured character. Crafted using the traditional kurinuki technique, the vase was carved from a single block of clay, resulting in angular, dynamic forms that invite exploration from every angle.

    Like its larger counterpart, this vase was wood-fired, creating an organic, unpredictable surface. The natural ash and shino glazes interact with the flame, leaving distinct marks highlighting its sculptural quality. Compact yet striking, this vase is a powerful statement piece or pairs beautifully with its sibling to form a harmonious duo.

    The vase was hand-built and decorated using a combination of shino and natural ash glazes. It was finished through wood firing at a temperature of 1300°C, giving it a unique texture and coloration.

    Elena Yakimushkina is a ceramic artist based in the Netherlands. Working primarily with handbuilt ceramics, she is drawn to simple, clear forms and the incredible possibilities of clay. Influenced by Japanese aesthetics and an appreciation of simplicity and imperfection, she values the marks left by hand and firing.She has a particular interest in wood firing and other processes where fire, ash and chance play an active role. Each piece is made individually, with subtle variations becoming part of its character.Her work has been exhibited internationally across Europe and Asia.
