The Ply Stool by Byungsub Kim is a reinterpretation of the aesthetic potential of birch plywood edges. Reassembling and sculpting the plywood using woodturning techniques transforms the material—traditionally used as flat panels—into a form resembling solid wood, exploring new aesthetic possibilities. This design moves beyond the functional use of plywood, turning it into a distinctive visual element in its own right.
Various types of plywood were tested to select a high-strength material for the legs of the Ply Stool. This process identified the most suitable material, ensuring structural stability.
