Description

No.2401 by Eun-chong Park explores architectural formality through the deliberate deconstruction of a solid cube. From above, the piece appears as a seamless square, but from different angles, it reveals a dynamic interplay of split sides and dismantled edges. This transformation creates new surfaces and perspectives, exemplifying the designer’s vision of formality through the interplay and fragmentation of elements.

Crafted from stainless steel, No.2401 carries the hallmarks of Park’s design language. The material’s smooth texture contrasts with the distinctive heat tinting effects of welding, adding depth and subtle variations in coloration. The addition of silver foil along the upper edges introduces an unexpected detail, juxtaposing the cool, industrial aesthetic of the metal with a refined, tactile accent.

This piece invites viewers to engage with its evolving form, celebrating the tension between structure and fluidity, solidity and intricacy.

About Eunchong Park Visit Showroom →

Eunchong Park creates furniture or lighting using formative language of intersecting vertical and horizontal structures. The intersecting vertical and horizontal structures create ‘balance’ by harmonizing formative elements of different characteristics, and also represents a visual contrasts of ‘imbalance’ within that balance In addition, He tries to express the ‘balance’ and ‘imbalance’ through materials, which is evident in his efforts to mix artificial and natural elements or to express diverse textures and colors from a single material. Based on this formative language, his works share the common theme of a ‘objects of function’, reflecting his desire for his works to be more than just static pieces, imbuing them with life and artistic value even when not actively used. He mainly uses metals such as iron or stainless steel as materials, which is closely related to his major. He majored in metal crafts during his undergraduate and master's programs and the various metalworking techniques he experienced the are still embedded in his works today. The ‘craftmanship’ he learned at that time is an expression method and value that he considers most important.
