Lacuna is a handcrafted sculptural lighting piece by Studio AOAO, cast in gypsum and meticulously hand-carved before being finished with a matte varnish. Two hidden, dimmable lights sit inside the form, illuminating it from within rather than acting as a separate visible fixture.
The studio applies traditional carving techniques to pigmented gypsum here, producing varied, unpredictable textures inspired by natural patterns. Lacuna belongs to the Living Forms Collection, which draws on the intuitive philosophy of Henri Bergson — the idea that intuition is a natural extension of the organism, rooted in primal human senses — translated into organic, abstract shapes that feel familiar despite being new.
The lamp can be customised to fit any country’s electrical standards, with further customisation of colour and size available from the studio.
