Interweavings – Raku Vessel No. 2 is a handbuilt ceramic object based on the structure of traditional birch-bark weaving. Thin clay strips are interwoven to form a tall, open vessel, translating a flexible textile-like construction into a rigid ceramic form.
Raku firing transforms the surface through crackled white glaze, smoke-darkened clay and irregular black traces. These variations are an integral part of the firing process and emphasize the individual strips and their intersections.
The work exists between vessel and sculpture. Its open woven structure does not hold water, but it can be displayed on its own or used with dry flowers and branches.
