GRID Tapestry is part of a series of jacquard woven and felted tapestries.
Marked by its bold and outspoken graphic design, this piece comes to life through its expressive use of colour and textures. After felting the jacquard woven fabric, the materials change. They start to wrinkle, shrink, move and distort, expressing their most tactile characteristics. This piece is also reversible, since each side expresses a different kind of tactility.

For Emma, collaboration with other master artisans is a central component of her design philosophy – both as a means to create a product of the highest quality, and as a way to preserve important local crafts and traditions. Her approach is deliberately slow and considered, applying digital tools to analogue processes without compromising on the characteristics of a handmade object. Using natural materials with subtle yet expressive properties, her woven works assume an organic and tactile feeling, brought into the present by bold graphic patterns.

Emma Terweduwe (°1996) is a textile designer based in Ghent, Belgium. In 2019 she graduated with a master degree in Textile Design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. Since then she runs her own textile studio where she works on her designs, focusing on consciously jacquard woven objects for interior and fashion. Emma’s work is defined by the use of raw and natural materials that are subtle yet expressive such as wool and linen. By felting and manipulating, the woven fabrics change: They shrink, move and distort. In that way the materials start expressing their most tactile self. Texture, structure and color are very significant in her work, tactility is what it is all about.
