This functional art piece, Ember by Courtney Kinnare, builds a color story through multiple layers of translucent tinted resin over a mirrored glass base. Throughout the day, as the light changes, their vibrant hues shift in color and tone – kaleidoscopic portals offering new perspectives each time you view them. I consider this work my signature series and have been developing the technique for over 2 years.

Courtney Kinnare is an artist and designer based in Brooklyn known for her vibrant mirrored works and functional artistic objects. Without feeling constricted to one medium or art form, she works intuitively to create abstract works of hyper-color palettes observed in the natural world, subconsciously documented throughout her life experiences. Each work is a unique experiment that studies the interaction of color, texture, and light, while challenging traditional material uses. By recreating and inviting specific colors into a space, she hopes to build a stronger affinity towards the unnoticed details in our everyday. Fascinated with exploring new skills like glassblowing, metalwork, and 3D printing to bring her concepts to life, Courtney looks forward to expanding her practice further into the design industry this year. Her work continues to celebrate the joy of experimentation - reminding us of the child-like wonder that art-making and the surrounding world can hold.
