About Atelier Fomenta Visit Showroom →

Atelier Fomenta is a design studio based in Montreal, and creates objects and spaces that reflect a feeling and express the versatility of design. Our process often begins with a reference—a fragment in art, a movie scene with special lighting, or even the photograph of a streetlight lost in the camera roll. We like to play with the limits, creating objects and situations that lie between the functional and the ironic, between the useful and the sculptural, that can be read as a fine mix of industrial and craft design. The studio is interested in patina and material memory: what explains the fact that we preserve certain things and how the affect we give to these things can create a history, a place for interaction and exchange. The objects that intrigue Fomenta are those that explore different ways of interacting with the body, which lie between the functional and the ironic, between the useful and the sculptural. All our pieces are handmade in collaboration with Montreal’s craftmanship.
