This transformative process not only breathes new life into what was once considered waste, but it also imbues the ceramic with a newfound beauty, characterised by its golden scars. Each lit surface reveals entirely unique one-of-a-kind idiosyncrasies while challenging the paradigms of wasteful use and replace mindset. It is repaired with 12-karat gold leaf. *This piece is handmade and slight variations in shape, colour and size can occur. This is the beauty of handmade, each item is truly unique. To achieve her lighting’s remarkable diaphanous effect, Sarah honed her artistry at the National Art School in Sydney, mastering an unique technique of pouring clay slip on a plaster slab, then heightening its luminous properties by adding iridescent colours to the porcelain, which results in exquisite celestial translucency when internally lit. She repairs the porcelain which has shattered in firing stages with Kintsugi gold leaf technique, combating wasting with circular economy. A dual existence as fine art and function design. Each lit surface reveals unique one-of-a-kind idiosyncrasies, embracing the intriguing variations inherent in the handcrafting process.
