AOA 003 Basket by Lia Raquel Marques, is part of a collection ceramic objects that sit between the past and the present in a changing landscape. The objects are a representation of the connection between a basket form and its plastic counterpart. A raffia basket and a plastic basin. This project imagines the act of a plastic basin and its counterparts colonising the traditional objects merging into a representation of the relationship between the traditional and moderns objects.
The collection was made inspired by patterns in woven baskets, using ‘verguinha’ a traditional Portuguese technique of weaving clay.
In AOA, An Object Archive I use references from cultural, daily customs of the country I grow up, Angola.
This basket does not hold water.
