The AMORFO collection is part of the research and development of objects made of soapstone – a typical material from the Ouro Preto region, Minas Gerais – carried out by ALVA.

Exploring the malleability of the material, the designers play with the amount of emptiness that gives a vase its function; as this emptiness diminishes, this function loses its place in the form. It results in pieces that move between the utility object and the sculptural object. These variations in the sizes of the bulbs and mouths suggest the sensation of movement; the vases seem to want to expand across the flat surface of tables or floors.

Available in three variations:
AMORFO 01 (17 (Ø) x 25 (H))
AMORFO 07 (40 (Ø) x 7 (H))
AMORFO 09 (18 (Ø) x 15 (H))

About ALVA design Visit Showroom →

ALVA is a furniture and object design studio founded in 2012 by siblings Susana Bastos, artist and fashion designer, and Marcelo Alvarenga, architect. Its projects result from the meeting of these two visions, the architectural and the artistic. In addition to the usual rationality and functionality, its creations explore the unusual, the new features and an expressive materiality.   ALVA launched its first line of furniture and objects at MADE 2013, in São Paulo.  After this release, it has partnered with Etel Design, a very important producer and promoter of brazilian design, who fabricates and sells some of its creations.     Since its first release, ALVA’s creations were published on several articles on websites and magazines, national and international ones, such as WGSN, Dezeen, Casa Vogue, Casa Claudia, Wish House, AMC, and the french newspaper Liberation.
