Description

Boldness and uniqueness are the core values that this piece embodies, perfectly reflecting the artistic gestures that CarmWorks aims to express in its creation. Camilo, the creator, first encountered the ancient tombs in San Agustin, Huila, Colombia, during his childhood. This early experience left a lasting impression on him, inspiring him to revive and abstract those ancient shapes into this console. The piece eloquently speaks to the themes of imperfection and the constant flux of time, capturing the true essence of ruins and decay. It serves as a powerful tribute to pre-Hispanic influences, evoking a sense of historical continuity and cultural depth. Through its intricate design, this console becomes a remain that narrates a story of ancient artistry and timeless beauty.

About CarmWorks Visit Showroom →

Camilo Andres Rodriguez Marquez is a Colombian born designer with a degree in Industrial Design from Colombia (FUAC) and Mexico (UNAM). He is fascinated by photography and cinematography, and intends to unify these two artistic expressions into his design in the form of narrative, projecting and communicating the interaction between the world and his objects. In his visits to several places in Mexico, such as San Juan Chamula in the sierra of Chiapas, Tzintzuntzan in Michoacán or Real de Catorce in San Luis Potosí, he was exposed to experiences that provided him with the awareness of how traditions, storytelling and rituals play an important role on how humans interpret their reality and our role in the universe. My hope is that we become attuned with what surrounds us in a sensoral and emotional state, by perceiving these pieces within a story of creation. This is why I want to demonstrate where it originated from and its relationship with the craftsman. This journey leaves a trace that can be seen in those imperfections and details that the artlessness of the handicraft possesses. We aim to provide a holistic view, where the mind can find a pleasurable and seamless contemplation in regards to the imperfection and the impermanence of nature. CarmWorks is a response to this exploration, on shaping people’s lives by suggesting a broader sensibility and providing a story to tell with these objects.
