Vestige is a wall mirror carved from bog oak, its two dark, horn-like forms embracing an oval mirror surface. Tapering towards the bottom, they converge at a single point, lending the composition a totemic character. At their meeting point, a light-toned element covered in galuchat introduces a subtle contrast with the deep colour of the wood.
The deep hue of bog oak results from natural processes that take place over centuries in oxygen-poor environments. Its distinctive grain is set against the characteristic granular texture of galuchat. Wood and shagreen retain their individual qualities, forming a composition built on contrasts of texture, colour and form.
Vestige exists at the boundary between a functional mirror and a sculptural object. Reflection, the depth of the wood and the texture of galuchat come together in a form where material becomes a central element of expression.
