In Layers is a series of hand-blown glass pieces built from undulating, overlapping forms that accumulate in layers, creating density at the center while alternating transparency toward the periphery. The collection moves between opaque and transparent, the glass catching and holding light differently at every hour- each piece as compelling on a dining table as it is in a display, existing somewhere between utility and expression, situating itself within the realm of collectible objects. The sweeping layers that give each work its sculptural yet functional presence- a lifted rim holds a ring, a curved hollow a single flower, a grasping curve a piece of fruit. The collection ranges in scale from small dishes and cups, through bowls and platters, to large vases that anchor the whole. These carry the collection’s weight- both literally and in terms of density of the color, massive proportions and significance. In Layers is a story about layering- about the complexity and density, whose rhythm can be held, for a moment, in these objects.
