Yvonne Mak’s installation features printed textiles that mimic sun-bleached curtains, shaped by years of sunlight exposure. Faded patterns appear on the fabric, creating the illusion of windows where there are none. This subtle trick of the mind, suggesting more daylight and openness, can enhance feelings of wellbeing and happiness indoors.
Studies show that even visual references to natural elements, like sunlight and windows, can reduce stress and improve mood. The installation taps into this principle, creating a space that feels lighter, more open, and emotionally comforting, especially in interior settings with limited access to natural light.
By reflecting on traces of time, light, and presence, the installation subtly hints at the quieter rhythms of change in our environment. What first appears as a calming interior gesture also becomes a poetic reminder of the marks we leave behind on objects, on spaces, and on the planet.
Imprint can be fully customized by the designer: including color, height, width, and even window shapes. Existing windows in the presentation space can be mirrored in the fabric design, creating a harmonious connection between the work and its surroundings.
The installation consists of fabric panels, each 1.40 meters wide. Unhemmed sides will naturally ruffle over time; for a crisp finish, sides can be sewn upon request.
You can choose your preferred hanging method:
- On a curtain rod with curtain rings and clips
- Sewn around the curtain rod
- On curtain rails
Please inquire for details on each option.
For the strongest visual impact, the work is ideally installed in front of a wall without windows, creating the illusion of a window where there is none.
