Sparked by curiosity and play, the pieces included in the Melancholy project by Saturday Yard Work display
a merge of material experimentation and design. The fluidity in surface texture was achieved while
experimenting with accessible materials and was accentuated after being cast in aluminum,
adding to its gothic characteristics. The project then focused on applying a new-found technique
to various objects, each with varying styles and some juxtaposed to polished surfaces. The
final shape and form weren’t necessarily crucial to the project nor heavily considered, instead
viewers are invited to take a closer look at the details exhibited in each piece.
Unique one-off piece, created and exhibited for “Gleam” by Household Presents, Adelaide.
