Made of a slab of white marble reflected in wood, Helikon belongs to the [REFLECTED MATTER] capsule, originally exhibited at Obumex’ showroom in Brussels.

The [REFLECTED MATTER] series is an exploration in materiality and form, intended to revive and elevate overlooked materials.
Pieces of wood, metal, stone, mirror and leather provided raw starting points for this process.These odds and ends carefully picked out of Obumex’ production workshop and their stone provider, Van Den Weghe, were carved, polished, cut and enhanced. Natural breaking points and imperfections were juxtaposed in dialogue with crisp lines and geometric shapes.
The resulting pieces are three-dimensional compositions with suggested purposes.
Challenging the tension between form and function, they start conversations and engage with the space around them.

About AVANDI Visit Showroom →

AVANDI creates durable products that seamlessly blend technology and craft in a sculptural way, using left over materials. The design studio was founded in Brooklyn in 2014 by designer Ariane van Dievoet with values of durability, fair working conditions and local production. Specialising in the repurposing of materials since moving back to Brussels in 2018, Ariane van Dievoet combines traditional and digital techniques to shape offcuts of wood, bluestone, marble, mirror, brass, and all materials she can get her hands on. Her degree in interior and spatial design from the Chelsea College of Art, in London, and her master’s degree in Adaptive reuse in Interior Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), in the United States, laid the foundations for her research. For the last 10 years, AVANDI has created a selection of objects & accessories designed and prototyped in house and produced locally. Ariane van Dievoet teaches design at the CAD in Brussels and is a board member at Micro Factory, a shared workshop in Brussels. She is the co-founder of Augusta, a sustainable design gallery that opened in Brussels in September 2023.
