ABOUT THE PIECE
Made from endemic pine wood in the region and hand-painted by the Mata Ortiz award-winning potters Hector Gallegos and Laura Bugarini. “Olla Stool I” is a modern reinterpretation of the ceramic vessels, known as “ollas,” found in the archaeological area.
This piece was designed for INEDITO 2022 by Design Week Mexico and was in the exhibition from October 2022 to February 2023.
ABOUT HECTOR AND LAURA
Hector Gallegos and his wife, Laura Bugarini, are artists and potters from Mata Ortiz recognized for the fantastic quality of their work, which is usually collaborative. Their work has been displayed in international exhibitions in USA, France, and Mexico; also, between both of them, they have earned dozens of national and international recognitions for their unique, high-quality work of art.
ABOUT THE COLLECTION
Paquimé is a distinctive archaeological site located in Chihuahua, Mexico. It is deemed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, thanks to its unique labyrinthine architecture adapted to its surroundings and for being a point of conversion between the West and the Center of Mexico.
The collection photography campaign was made in collaboration with Anahuacalli, a studio, museum, and temple for art that Diego Rivera conceived as an architectural piece that unites past, present, and future to the natural environment. The fusion between the collection and the space perfectly complements, opening a dialogue between pre-Hispanic and current Mexico.
