Hazel Wave #4 floor lamp, designed by Darja Malesic is part of the Hazel Wave collection.
Hazel Wave lights take a rare and ancient handcraft practiced by a small number of Slovenian artisans, to create a series of lighting modules, that are at once visually seductive and eminently modernist.
The main material used is hazel wood stems that are cut from the hazel tree yearly as part of the pruning regime. The act of pruning these young branches encourages the plant to produce more stems, and the lifespan of the tree is extended. The practice is entirely circular and sustainable.
The construction follows a centuries-old basket weaving technique that is practiced in the designer’s home country of Slovenia. This ancient craft has been technically adapted in practice by local artisans to produce the more complex and sculptural forms of Hazel Wave lights.
The wooden forms are lightly softened by a series of elegant interwoven folds, which, like a pleated fabric, wrap and drape.

By splitting strips of hazel from a rod, then turning them into ribbons and weaving them with traditional Slovenian wicker techniques into our unique hazel lights, we aim to bring seen and unseen qualities into the ambiance of our homes.
