“Messless” is a furniture series created to encourage chaos at home. Due to its random organisation, it doesn’t enable the user to place things in an organised way.
From an early age, we are taught to “understand” chaos from order: clean our room, organise our clothes, and keep our things from lying around on the floor. The traces we leave over time in our homes are seen as chaotic, a mess. We, but mostly others, are not able to oversee the confusion that comes with losing something in a pile of unwashed clothes. By cleaning our room, the organisation of this confusion, we are actually erasing the traces of time in order to make everything seem as new as possible again.
Designer Joel Blanco wants to subvert this system with his furniture, since he thinks that the idea of home is actually made of these time traces.
When the mess is the order, the mess is not mess, but order.
