This is a sculptural briarwood island to be placed in the centre of the room. It consists of a double side cabinet with drawers on one side and a glass doors on the other.
The island is the symbolic element of the collection, the one that best sums up my design method: careful research of materials and magical synergy of creative minds.
The island is inspired by nature: it replicates it in shapes, textures and colours and also welcomes it inside.
The surface is hand made by an Sylviane Merchez Mnestra, an artist based in Brussels who creates surfaces with a cement polymer, Halchemia. I wanted a surface that recalled recalled the colours and the atmosphere of water. This top is sky bue with sparkling speckles . Any colour can be used on request.
The leg-totem that support the surface is hand made by CContinua + Mamt, an artist duo based in Amsterdam. I wanted a detail that recalled the ceramic vocation of my hometown Faenza .
The cabinet is a plywood core, clad inside with a sky-blue laminated Abet and outside with briarwood foils. Different types of briarwood can be used on request.
The handles are inspired by shells, modeled and 3D printed with PETG.
“We stood in the kitchen laughing and happy ”
This island is part of my kitchen collection Serendipity: a sanctuary of good living. It is aimed at those who desire a space not only to nourish the body but above all the mind.
The surface doesn’t absorb and doesn’t stain and the ceramic vase is water proof.
