Named after the designers great-grandma Halinka, Halinka Stool is the product of the romance between embroidery and carpentry. Inspiration for this piece came from Basia Pruszyńska great-grandma’s embroidery, specifically the lace collars that she made. This decorative element became inspiration for form and function of the scalloped rocking stool design.
Halinka Stool Is a part of The Romance Collection inspired by the Her family’s craft traditions, blending the contrasting crafts of her great-grandparents. Basias great-grandfather, Roman, was a blacksmith and carpenter, while her great-grandmother, Halinka, specialized in intricate embroidery.
In The Romance, she explores how the contrasting qualities of their crafts can coexist in a single furniture piece. The designer invites the softness and warmth of her great-grandmother’s embroidery into the rough, cold, industrial world of metal and wood. She uses textile elements like ruffles and bows to “replace” screws, structurally connecting materials while playfully balancing function and ornamentation. Through this fusion, The Romance creates a contemporary ‘generation’ of craftsmanship, honoring tradition with a new aesthetic.
