Part of my ongoing Floral Studies series, this piece reflects on botanical forms as a source for sculptural interpretation. The shape echoes a rosehip berry. The word night in the title refers not only to the dark color of the clay, but also to a quiet, inward moment, when a flower has already passed its blooming phase and holds its seeds within.
Handbuilt from black stoneware, the vase has an intentionally organic, imperfect shape. The surface is left unglazed, emphasising the material’s depth and tactility, while subtle irregularities in the form avoid a sense of artificial perfection. The piece balances between abstraction and a recognisable natural reference.
Functioning as a vase, Night Rosehip also works as a sculptural accent within an interior. Its calm, balanced presence allows it to sit naturally on a shelf, table, or windowsill, with or without flowers.
Handbuilt from black stoneware. Unglazed, hand-polished exterior with subtle glazed accents; transparent glaze inside. Fired at 1250°C. Waterproof and suitable for fresh flowers.
