A pop-art expression of an internal state that finds us all from time to time, this sculptural hanger is an exceptionally empathic work. Without words it has the power to make the viewer feel seen and mirrored in a momentary state of elation, distress, or collapse. And there is a secondary message — it’s normal to feel strong feelings.
This piece is part of the collection “Bad Graces,” by DUSKSHAPED, conceived and designed during a period when the designer lost the ability to walk. A lot of reading, a lot of dreaming, and a lot of musing on what it means to trust one’s body for daily use filled these months. The designer emerged with a new collection and an understanding of the grief and searching that attend diminished ability.
This steel piece was designed for versatility; it can take on a tea towel, hand towel, a bunch of bananas kitchenside, or a current jewelry rotation.
Sustainability is DUSKSHAPED’s organizing principle, and their intention is for their work to be circular: cherished for hundreds of years, but circular nonetheless given a geologic time scale, the scale that matters. This is why our practice is centered on metals, the only common building materials that are systematically recycled and infinitely recyclable. Post-life recycling is highly encouraged via a return to any local metal yard.
Care: Wipe clean with a water-dampened cloth.
