Description

The “Soulmate Collection” is a series of tables and vases whose trait d’union is the link between an ancient material – like fake marble, obtained through the Scagliola technique – and a more modern one – like resin.

Two mirror halves (like the Yin and Yang) together create a single solid, in harmony as in a love story. The Scagliola technique was invented in Carpi ( Martina’s Italian hometown) and then spread around the rest of Italy, especially Florence that made it popular during the 17th century. The use of this technique is designer Martina Guandalini’s personal tribute to her Italian roots.

Scagliola is a composite substance made from selenite, glue, and natural pigments, imitating marble and other hard stones. Only few makers are still using this technique and Guandalini works with one of the Italian masters, Simone Desiro’. She also uses no toxic resin for the upper side.

The “Rose Gea Table” is entirely handmade, so each piece will always be unique. It can be customized in many different colors. The shades of colors will match while the texture will always vary in each item, creating a unique object for each client.

About Martina Guandalini Visit Showroom →

Martina Guandalini is an architect, designer, and creative director. She graduated with a Master's degree in Architecture from the Politecnico of Milan, and her thesis was featured at the Architecture Biennale in Venice in 2012. Shortly after graduation, she moved to New York to work at Sergio Mannino Studio, where she distinguished herself for innate creative talent.  In just a few years, she assumed the role of Creative Director, and she is now running the primary project teams involving commercial, residential, and furniture design.  Her work has been featured in numerous magazines worldwide. In 2019 she received the 40Under40 Award, nominated by Retail: Design magazine that honors the retail design industry's top young professionals and up-and-coming future leaders. In 2020, she obtained the NYCxDESIGN Honoree for Best Emerging Designer with her first collection of furniture, Soulmate, previously launched on Dezeen and Sight Unseen. In September 2021, she launched Infinity Table at 5VIE during Super Salone in Milan. PHILOSOPHY Martina's work is characterized by constant research and instinct. She creates unique and unconventional solutions, characterized by a polished and expressive style with profound attention to detail. Her production aims to shape new spatial standards and solutions for her customers, full of personality, unique experiences, and obtaining a completely new syntax. Growing up as a professional dancer and musician, she combined all her experiences to bring them together in a unique, synergistic design style. "Since I work mostly in retail, I'm dealing with specific customers and translating their brand into a physical space and engaging their value through my language. With objects instead, I can create in complete freedom and give voice to my pure creativity and instinct. It's like with songs, you write them to fill an inner instinct but then they belong to the people that will listen to them. Everyone will refer to them in a personal way."
