Description

The Citadel Collection comprises four sculptural luminaires — a table lamp, a short floor lamp, and two illuminated sculptures — inspired by East Asian palatial architecture and celestial mythology, forming a constellation of sacred towers, fortified citadels, and celestial bastions, invoking the legendary Heavenly Palace depicted in Chinese folklore – Journey to the West.

Citadel draws upon the rich tapestry of Chinese mythology, specifically the celestial realm known as the Heavenly Palace (天宫) — a divine citadel presided over by the Jade Emperor, ruler of the heavens. According to legend, this palace spans thirty-three levels and houses myriad deities, forming an ethereal cosmos of order, power, and hierarchy. The series reimagines this mythic landscape through seven illuminated objects, each envisioned as a sacred bastion suspended in the sky.

Anchored close to the ground, Citadel Short Floor Light Sculpture casts a steady wash of light upward, echoing the grounded solidity of architectural plinths. A study in weight and elevation, it invites stillness into a room.

Pieces are 3D printed and finished by hand. Subtle variations and slight surface imperfections may occur as part of the fabrication process, a reflection of the work’s digital-craft character.

"By sharing these diverse narratives, I hope to cultivate a deeper appreciation for our shared human experience." This vision is reflected in his studio's name, Ultramar. Derived from the Latin words "Ultra" (beyond) and "Mare" (sea), it embodies his background growing up in Hong Kong, a vibrant crossroads shaped by centuries of maritime trade, and his experiences living in London. This rich tapestry of Eastern and Western influences continues to inspire his work and fuels his desire to connect people through the power of storytelling.
