Curatorial Statement
ADORNO is honored to present “MELT”, an exhibition of radical contemporary design by thirty New York-based artists and designers.
As its title suggests, this collection features the work of a diverse range of makers who are tuned into the experimental and expressionist aesthetic that has emerged in recent years. This coincidentally cohesive body of work finds each designer pushing the limits of form and discovering a common language.
Co-curated by HNH Gallery, the collection consists of more and less functional art that reimagines the living room as a quotidian domestic space with abstract interpretations of everyday objects — from rugs, tables, lamps, and chairs to paintings, sculpture, and photography.
Featuring never-before-shown works from renowned New York profiles including Jumbo, J McDonald, Studio Poa, and Joseph Algieri, as well as new commissions from rising stars including Nicholas Devlin, Gustavo Barroso, and Michal Cihlar, “MELT” gives an on-the-ground, insider look into the subversive style making waves through New York’s young, vibrant melting pot of a design scene.
“The pieces on display resemble a constant flow or movement which makes us feel dynamic and present at the same time. This is what I hope visitors will feel when visiting,” says Martin Clausen, co-founder and Creative Director of ADORNO. “Despite the objects being static, they give an opportunity to grasp a moment in time, almost like time stands still.”
