Caroline Zimbalist is an artist and designer who hand creates
one-of-a-kind works using nontraditional processes and techniques, sculpting bioplastic and natural materials into three dimensional forms. Artistic home decor such as tabletop planters and lighting sculptures that conjure the appearance of textiles frozen in time. Each one-of-a-kind piece is inflected with biomimicry to emphasize nature’s dominance.
She’s studied painting, illustrating and sculpting since she was four and further discovered a love for avant-garde design while studying abroad at Central Saint Martins, London.
Caroline earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion from Parsons School of Design and currently works as a designer at a NYC based clothing line.
Presenting “PROXIMITY”, a collection created in collaboration with Southern Sweden Design Days showcasing a selection of new work from ten designers and studios. As a whole, the collection contemplates the notion of proximity, interconnection, and belonging. Whether through contemporary references to traditional crafts techniques; the use of locally sourced materials such as wool, lichen, steel, and wood; or playful visualisations of the notion itself, the selected pieces illustrate the importance of closeness, interconnection, and kinship in uncertain times.
Featuring pieces by Andrea Santivanez, Andréason & Leibel, Ebba Lindgren, Förstberg Ling, Jóna Berglind Stefánsdóttir, Lab La Bla, Lisa Darland, Louise Hederström, Moa Lönn, and Studio M.
