Karolina Brobeck is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Malmö, Sweden, whose creative journey has traversed various artistic domains. Beginning with a passion for photography, she transitioned into documentary filmmaking before finding her new habitat as a ceramicist.
Brobeck’s art is deeply influenced by her upbringing in a working-class home, her queer perspective, and a profound love for storytelling, allowing her to convey complex themes and emotions through her creations.
A pivotal moment in Karolina’s artistic development occurred during her childhood when she visited an exhibition about Pompeii with her father. The catastrophic natural disaster left a lasting impression on her, inspiring a recurring theme in her work. “As a child, I went to an exhibition about Pompeii with my dad, and it made such an impression on me. Its still a big inspiration that I keep coming back to. The idea of a natural disaster, something Mother Nature is capable of, is the worst thing I can imagine, yet I am so fascinated by it,” she reflects.
For over eight years, Karolina has dedicated herself to the craft of ceramics. As a self-taught artist, she relies heavily on her intuition throughout her creative process. Her work often explores the essential aspects of life and the critical role of art in understanding and expressing these fundamentals. Karolina’s creations frequently embody contradictions, reflection her attraction to the multifaceted nature of storytelling.
