Introducing the ‘T-Cord Chair’ by German design project, ROI B, a radical fusion of form and function. Crafted from 56 tension cords and a 60mm steel pipe welded together with rounded pieces, this conceptual design is meticulously handmade, limited to just 10 chairs. The vibrant green tension cords, stretched using the famous principle of hyperbolic paraboloid, create an eclectic visual statement. Often referred to as saddles – the name is derived from the fact that the vertical cross-sections are parabolas while the horizontal cross-sections are hyperbolas. Inspired by the iconic Pringles chip: the reason crunchy Pringles don’t crack is because of all the other chips stacked on top, forming the hyperbolic paraboloid. This chair embodies a unique blend of geometry and functionality. With its quadratic and doubly-ruled surface, this chair not only showcases geometric prowess but also offers a comfortable seating experience.
This chair is more sculptural than functional, but still durable and usable.
