Tonatiuh Qualo: the name given by the Mayans to an eclipse, which meant “the sun is eaten.”
This lamp, conceived under the concept of “4,” pays homage to the importance of the number four for the Mayans. The number four held deep significance due to its symbolic connections with the human body, houses, milpas (cornfields), and the paths of the sun in its seasonal cycle—all fundamental aspects of life and beliefs in Mayan culture.
This lamp is crafted from volcanic stone, with the discs made from recycled bronze. There is also an option to create it in wood, specifically white oak, charred using a renowned Japanese technique.
