The Kawa Matchawan is a contemporary interpretation of the traditional matcha bowl used in Japanese tea ceremonies. Luft Tanaka applied his unique technique of slip-casting in a leather mold, leaving subtle marks and textures that give it a distinct, organic character. The soft, irregular shape contrasts with the coolness of porcelain, reflecting the tension between material permanence and the impermanence of fleeting moments.
This piece was specially commissioned for SILENT MATTERS, an experiential installation that blends Japanese tea ceremony with contemporary sound, curated by Adorno and SILENCE PLEASE.
