There are approximately three million lobster traps in Maine’s waters and more than 100,000 are lost each year. Lost or abandoned traps and other fishing gear plague coastal waters around the globe putting pressure on a number of already stressed ocean populations. The Fresh Catch series is developed from abandoned lobster traps salvaged off the coast of Maine. The project seeks to address the ongoing crisis of ocean waste by removing debris from our coastal shores and transforming it into one-of-a-kind objects.
The derelict traps are collected by hand from tidal coves where derelict fishing gear gathers in large quantities. Each trap is carefully deconstructed, rearranged and welded back together to form functional furniture pieces.

Fresh Catch II is made from two lobster traps spliced together with a powder coated finish. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor application, the piece has four compartments and weighs under 6kg.
