This ceramic artwork by Elena Yakimushkina explores themes of connection, support, and individual freedom. Two hand-sculpted pears embrace each other, symbolizing the strength found in unity. While each pear might be unstable on its own, together they stand firmly, reflecting the idea that love and mutual support can provide a solid foundation. The incorporation of copper rods adds a contrasting element, both visually and conceptually. The rods, with their unique and freeform shapes, represent the inner freedom and self-sufficiency of each figure. Differing in color and texture, these elements highlight the beauty of diversity and the importance of tolerance in our contemporary world.
This artwork was handbuilt and then wood-fired in an anagama-type kiln to a temperature of 1300 degrees Celsius. It consists of two parts: the pears and the base. The size of the base is 19x12x2 cm.
