Description

Pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, DUNE is a modern circular coffee table, 3D printed using black quartz sand. Beautiful, bold and dynamic…a permanent form emerges from a mound made up of millions of sand particles.

Inspired by the wave-like patterns of sweeping sand dunes, the statement coffee table is brought to life in a rough, yet premium feel black or natural sand finish, paired with a thick glass tabletop to give a sense of grandeur to the finished furniture piece.

Using a 3D printed sand approach enables total flexibility and allows for a consistent, free-flowing design to emerge, all while also using a premium quality material that couldn’t be more in line with the table’s original inspiration

The studio offers a rectangular and circular variation of the coffee table design for sale but will also create bespoke designs and statement pieces for clients as ‘this is a concept that really works and which we can twist over and over again.’

40% More economical than other 3D printing processes, excess unbounded material is reused and binders are also made from locally sourced renewable materials, with a sustainable manufacturing model too.

About the designer

Our furniture designs are ideas-based, combining art and function, and playing with the concepts of gravity, geography and optical illusion. Chris works with a talented team of designers, artisans, and manufacturers to turn these concepts into high-quality pieces of luxury, bespoke furniture, and artistic sculpture. All our pieces are handmade to order here in the London studio by a skilled team of craftspeople using sustainable woods from Forestry Stewardship Council-managed forests and other eco-friendly materials and mediums. Works are divided into six main collections - Abyss, Solo, Megalith, Up! Balloon, Swing and Meeting Pod. In 2019, a limited edition of the Abyss Table was acquired by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at The Louvre in Paris to become part of the permanent National French collection. Our pieces have featured at Art Basel, Art Miami and 100% Design London. In 2016 Duffy London was partner for the PAD London 20th Century Design & Decorative Arts Fair. Chris and the studio are constantly exploring new mediums along with the latest cutting-edge techniques, as part of their ongoing mission to apply innovative modern design to the world of furniture and sculpture.
