The Best Friends Temporarily hanger by DUSKSHAPED is a love letter to the ones who braid themselves into our lives for six or nine or twelve months and then have to depart. These ephemeral amigos íntimos alter us permanently. Our thoughts float back to them; we see their ghosts when we revisit those places where we shared mental space. Like the iconic example in physics, one billiard ball hitting another, our close friends set us in motion. Oftentimes we continue rolling in the direction they set even after they are far from us.
This steel piece was designed for versatility; it can take on a tea towel, hand towel, a bunch of bananas kitchenside, or a current jewelry rotation.
The BFT hanger is part of the collection “Bad Graces,” conceived and designed during a period when the designer lost the ability to walk. A lot of reading, a lot of dreaming, and a lot of musing on what it means to trust one’s body for daily use filled these months.
Sustainability is the organizing principle, and the intention is for their work to be circular: cherished for hundreds of years, but circular nonetheless given a geologic time scale, the scale that matters. That is why DUSKSHAPED’s practice is centered on metals, the only common building materials that are systematically recycled and infinitely recyclable. Post-life recycling is highly encouraged via a return to any local metal yard.
