This is the second wooden Bimsthal in the collection. This time, we used a wood-burning technique to camouflage the heavy damage on the wooden beam surface. To maintain consistency with the first piece, we used birch plywood to reinforce the deep wooden tearing. The “Plydowel” Birch plywod dowel certainly contributes to the character of this Bimsthal—elevating the heavy timber with the lightness of a toothpick. Completing this second Bimsthal has enabled us to establish a fixing method for every other possible bench that will fit to this concept. It’s a minimal, non-invasive approach—guided by David Pye’s words in ‘The Nature and Art of Workmanship’ – “You must not torture your material.”
