According to the Greeks, Thule was an island north of what is now Scandinavia. Its waters were plagued by fearsome sea monsters. Although most modern cartographers maintain that this mysterious island is probably modern-day Norway or Iceland, there are still people who believe that Thule really existed at some point and was buried by rising water levels.
