Spigolatura n°64 by Susanna Costantini is part of the Gleaning series. Inspired by Agnes Varda’s documentary, Les glaneurs et la glaneuse, these minimalist textile panels are the result of a ‘gleaning’ process. The gleaning activity is something necessary we practice every day, and it has something to do with the recovery of value, both material and emotional. The practice of gleaning brings with it a moment of choice; you evaluate, and you decide whether to let go, recover, or process. These pieces are woven from remainders of warps and other weavings, which create geometric and textured shapes in the weave. Balancing different kinds of threads and techniques in the weave of these abstract landscapes is a craft perfected by Susanna Costantini, who developed these unique, experimental weavings after years spent mastering their practice.
