Description

A quilt is a form of communication, the piecing together of images and colors to create a visual story that can also be a source of comfort in a home. On Urbs Studio’s daily walks, the designers are constantly seeking inspiration from the world around them. This textile piece was specifically inspired by the overgrown wildflowers on an urban trail during springtime. “Looking down while walking” is the overarching theme, making the seemingly mundane and ordinary things observed special.

100% linen fabrics, hand printed and sewn in our studio. The piece is a one of a kind “throw sized” quilt.

About Urbs Studio Visit Showroom →

Urbs studio is an award winning Interdisciplinary design studio located in Austin Texas led by Alyson beaton, with partner Matt Beaton. Trained in architecture and visual design their overlap takes that of spaces colliding with objects and furniture. Our designs are derived from the details and detritus of the urban environment. They suggest traces of human intervention through form, color, textures, flowers, grids, grit, signs, symbols, rhythm, scribbles, weeds, chaos, order… The exploration goes from everyday activities and useful home linens that when compiled make a collage of color and graphics, to furniture that is meant to engage in a larger conversation. Our work explores context and plays with color and juxtapositions that change with light and angle. Color in our world is largely defined by that of an urban environment through signage, symbols and nature that stands out in a sea of grey tones. Each piece is a small part of a larger story. Although our expertise and projects span design disciplines, we approach all projects as “design” and attempt to negotiate form, function, beauty, and cultural relevance/ discourse independent of outcome. Our two decades of practice have produced a body of work that overlaps product design, visual communication, textiles, printed matter, furniture, interior spaces, architecture and urban space.
