This series of elegantly and playfully extrusion-like candleholders subtly pays tribute to the potential of this innovative manufacturing process. Based in Barcelona, Gasch practice equally values digital manufacturing methods as well as traditional crafts. In this series, he creates intentionally simple forms that could not be manufactured using any other process due to the complexity of the curvature.
Sand, a material with a variety of mineral compositions, has been fundamental in architecture and construction from very primitive times. The sand printing process is surprisingly long lasting and durable making it an ideal material to be repurposed digitally as a product.
Despite the innovative fabrication these candle holders are undeniably made from sand – stripped of any distractions allowing us to appreciate the quality of this raw material under a flickering candle. This fusion of ancient natural material and contemporary manufacturing technology symbolizes a fresh, symbiotic relationship between our past and our future.
