Very present in the suburbs of Brazil, the kite is a relevant toy in Brazilian popular culture. Starting from the object that gives the piece its name, the chair emerges with the proposal of incorporating an unusual material into the studio’s creations. The idea arose from observing a group of children flying kites in the streets around the woodworking shop—where Vinícius from Estúdio Simbiose spent much of his childhood. This moment inspired the use of one of the materials employed in kite-making.
Bamboo, with its exceptional properties, combines strength, lightness, and a certain flexibility, allowing different possibilities of use. The premise was to preserve the shape of the rods used in kite construction. Inserted vertically, this cluster of bamboo directly references the kite’s frame, where the central rod supports the entire structure.
One of bamboo’s characteristics is its flexibility. The cluster made of this material allows for a slight twisting motion in the backrest. This detail made it possible to reduce the dimensions of the backrest without compromising comfort. The backrest has a subtle balance that follows the movement of the body, highlighting the natural qualities of bamboo.
The choice of three legs instead of four aims to emphasize the structural role of the bamboo rod cluster, which serves as a fundamental support for the piece.
Finally, the circular seat, hand turned, reinforces the idea of movement and lightness that the kite symbolizes.
We use a natural blend of Brazilian floral oils and waxes for the final finish of the piece.
