Objects from Frames (OFF) is a project about bicycles, subcultures, and the lives of objects. A narrative driven and design-led exploration of the structural and adaptive potential of components and manmade forms.
OFF takes the familiar shape of the bicycle in heavily used or end-of-life condition — an object with its own rich culture, connotations and personality — and asks it to perform a new function in the domestic environment. The final pieces display an honest physicality and do not hide their former function, wearing their use with an earnest pride. The intent is not to up-cycle, but rather pay homage, recognising the meaning and intangible value of the materials used and craft involved.

This lamp by Cara Campos was crafted from the first bicycle donated to the designer, a twin-tube crossbar mountain bike with a complex geometry that made it challenging to work with.
Initially, the designer kept the seat post intact, but eventually removed it, realising the steel twin tubes provided sufficient strength on their own. The idea to transform the bike into a lamp emerged as the designer began cutting away parts of the frame and visualizing the potential shape of a table lamp.
The finished lamp features a steel bar at the rear for weight distribution and an LED bulb wired through the frame.
