Description

The Knot Chair by Greem Jeong is an extension of the Mono Series, expanding the flow of lines into knotted forms that merge sculptural and experimental design. While the Mono Series explored the organic forms and spatial occupation of a single line, the Knot Chair evolved this concept into a structural and functional object. The complex knotted forms enrich the flow of lines, reinterpreting the traditional concept of knots with contemporary and experimental techniques, breaking the boundaries between sculpture, furniture, craft, and design.

The chair is crafted using a metal framework as its foundation, with soft and flexible silicone material wrapped around it to create its shape spontaneously. This process relies on the artist’s intuition and craftsmanship, giving each piece a unique identity. As every Knot Chair is handmade, the details of the knots differ with each work, emphasizing its originality and individuality. Additionally, slight variations in size (1–5 cm) may occur during the production process, highlighting the inherent characteristics of handcrafted work and enhancing the chair’s distinctiveness.

More than just a functional piece of furniture, the Knot Chair asserts a striking presence in space, offering a sculptural object that invites a new sensory experience. It transcends the boundaries of art and utility, providing a fresh perspective on visual and tactile landscapes in everyday life. The Knot Chair harmonizes contemporary aesthetics with the warmth of handmade craftsmanship, enriching the spaces it inhabits with its bold and unique character.

This piece is a stool-sized version, smaller than a standard adult chair.

About Greem Jeong Visit Showroom →

Greem Jeong is a multidisciplinary artist and designer whose work spans sculpture, furniture, and installation art, exploring the interplay between materials, forms, and space. She believes that art should do more than simply occupy space—it should engage with it, creating new experiences and meanings. Guided by this philosophy, she transforms lines into fluid, three-dimensional expressions that redefine and reimagine space. Inspiring her to experiment with materials and discover new forms. Jeong often works with industrial materials, reinterpreting them into organic, intuitive shapes that challenge their conventional utilitarian purpose. Her signature pieces include knot-based sculptures, flowing lines, and translucent forms that interact dynamically with light and space. These works transcend their roles as static objects, instead becoming elements that organically connect with their surroundings and invite viewers to engage. By blurring the boundaries between function and form, she reimagines everyday objects—chairs, mirrors, and lights—as both practical items and artistic experiences. Recently, Greem has been incorporating traditional Korean mother-of-pearl inlay techniques into her work, blending them with modern technologies like 3D printing. This fusion of past and present opens up new possibilities, combining the delicate intricacy of traditional craftsmanship with the innovative potential of contemporary methods. The result is a body of work that bridges cultural heritage and modernity, adding depth and richness to her creative practice.
