This chair was made by Emil Keller using second grade cowhide and animal fat for hardening.
It is fully supportive without using any additional materials or supporting structures.
All the materials used are by-products of the meat industry. About 45% (in western countries) of cow skins don’t make it into the leather value chain, ending up being burned or on landfills, since they show unique characteristics that are considered damages that aren’t appreciated in the fashion or furniture industries. This chair uses these skins, tanned in a local tannery using the natural process of vegetable tanning.
