The Crepuscular Side Table by Luca Gruber draws its inspiration from the enchanting energy and spiritual essence of the woodlands. Walking through a forest, light filtering through the leafy canopy invites introspection—about oneself and the intricate balance of the natural world. The forest is a liminal space, a harmonious yet paradoxical ecosystem shaped by humanity yet untouched in spirit. This osmotic borderland fosters a profound connection where humanity and nature converge in mutual respect and coexistence.
Woodlands symbolize a sacred ground for rekindling humanity’s mystical and ancestral bond with nature. The Crepuscular collection serves as a poignant reminder of this relationship’s sacredness, urging preservation for future generations.
Crafted from cherry wood, cherry and thuya veneer, glass, brass, and accented with gold leaf along its edges, the table is a masterpiece of artistry and innovation. Traditional craftsmanship merges seamlessly with advanced technology: all wooden components are CNC-machined using a 5-axis robotic arm, then meticulously refined by the renowned carpentry workshop Kumpusch in Gleinstätten.
The glass tabletop, designed with a mesmerizing trompe-l’oeil effect, evokes the beauty of stained glass windows. Each glass element is water-cut, partially mirrored, and laminated with precision in the historic workshop of Gustav Van Treeck. A colored, screen-printed foil is applied atop, producing gradient hues and shimmering golden veins. Originally developed for security glass, this foil technique adds an innovative layer of craftsmanship to the design.
The Crepuscular Side Table is more than a functional object—it is a tribute to the balance of man and nature, a piece where art, technology, and tradition intertwine to celebrate the sacred beauty of the woodlands.
