‘TRUNK2’ stool from the ‘SLOY’ series by Martina Dimitrova draws inspiration from the dynamic patterns created by a notched trowel during adhesive application in construction and masonry work. Its surface features bold and rhythmic rotational stripes, reminiscent of the natural patterns found in tree trunks or drops falling onto water. While the pattern seamlessly continues over each radius and plane, a surreal quality is being added to this simple and graphic appearance.
From the designer “Inspired by childhood memories of my grandmother’s Chinese ceramic stool, the creation of a series of simple stools within the SLOY collection pays homage to the enduring impact of this seemingly modest object. I vividly recall the irresistible allure of that stool—the way its surface invited touch and discover, its weight grounding it firmly to the ground yet beckoning to be explored in various ways, including climbing and playing as a child. As I reflect on that cherished piece from many years ago, I now appreciate its versatility and aesthetic appeal in a new light. Each stool within SLOY series embodies this appreciation, blending intricate patterns with a smooth, stone-like surface that begs to be touched. While these stools may appear unassuming at first glance, they carry with them the legacy of that beloved ceramic stool, infusing every space they inhabit with a sense of calm and nostalgia.”
All stools can be customized in finish and color. New patterns and illustrations are possible upon request.
