01 of a series of 05 dining chairs. The constructions series is a play with form and color, each one different but sharing a common vocabulary, much like a family. Designed as a personal project and based on the Urbs Studio’s large Italian family dinners, each chair in the series is different and unique like each family member, along with stools that can complete corners, join together and add additional seating to a table that, in Urbs Studio’s home, is crammed with family members of all ages. The variation in chair styles allow the elder adults to use more practical chairs with back support and letting the kids sit on stools. The real question: which chair would you choose?
This set of chairs was developed and built over 6 months all at the same time, leaving room for “happy accidents” to inform the final outcomes. Urbs Studio’s furniture pieces are computer modeled and then built in the wood shop using traditional woodworking techniques in collaboration with Austin Waldo, a fine wood worker and co-founder at the Austin School of Furniture.
In Urbs studio the designers are constantly playing with ideas and then making them into projects that engage an audience or end user. Their endless curiosity pushes them to try things that are generally unconventional but follow a set of design rules to create outcomes that are useful and artful. The table is currently under development and will also include table top vessels.
Made of poplar wood, painted and stained with water based products.
