Beggar is a sculptural table lamp made of acrylic resin and mineral salts. Its surface forms a rough, crystalline texture, giving the piece an unfinished, almost eroded quality. Shaped into the form of a human hand, the work avoids naturalistic accuracy: the hand is irregular, slightly deformed, and appears caught between gesture and distortion.
The use of resin allows light to pass through the object, while the salts create an uneven translucency, producing areas of opacity and glow. When illuminated, the hand becomes both material and immaterial, solid and fractured.
The work draws on the symbolism of the hand in medieval art and in tarot, where hands were often depicted as instruments of divine power or as channels of offering. Here, however, the hand takes on a more ambiguous role. It is not idealized, but marked by fragility and imperfection. The title, Beggar, refers to the act of reaching or asking, reflecting a personal connection to the tarot as a space of questioning and dependency.
By combining sculptural form with function as a lamp, the piece places symbolic gesture into everyday space, encouraging reflection on the human tendency to seek, request, and reach outward.
