The B.S.P Series “The Original” began with a new perspective on the components of design. In previous works, Atelier Sohn created recycled plates using large, discarded units from the machining process. The intention behind this was to raise awareness about policy issues through the design process.
These regenerated plates are no longer suitable for re-machining due to changes in their chemical composition. Despite this, several companies continue to reprocess recycled plastic plates simply to qualify for government subsidies.
Atelier Sohn has been developing the B.S.P Series for over five years. One day, the question arose: why not use the original parts themselves, which already possess a unique aesthetic? This led to the decision to collect them directly from factories.
The idea was inspired by a past hobby—building Gundam plastic models. A similarity was found between the discarded machining parts and the plastic frames to which Gundam units are attached, large remnants typically discarded.
Ultimately, the designs of limited edition works were created using the aesthetic of these discarded parts, reflecting both the origin of the material and the form in which it originally existed.
The items in the B.S.P series are uniquely handmade and should be handled with the utmost care.
Especially, be careful not to bump into the protruding texture.
